First of all, thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement. I LOVE what I do and working with all of you is such a blessing. I love that we all have something in common...it's like we are one big happy family!

Secondly, THANK YOU for being so patient with me as I design, process and ship orders. I know sometimes it seems like the process takes longer than you want it to and I apologize for that. As you may know, I am a mother of 3 (soon to be 4) kids and run this thriving business out of my home. It has given me the opportunity to be a stay at home mom and still help our family out financially. When I started doing this after my daughter had her DOC Band in 2008, it grew slow and steady. Today it is more than I ever hoped it would be. With that growth I have decided that I need some help so that I can continue to provide fast and efficient service to my customers.

Payten’s Prayer

Our Mission Statement:

To help other people understand through sharing Payten’s experience how truly special children like Payten are. And that through Hope, Love and Acceptance children like Payten can do ANYTHING!

Payten’s Story

Payten is our 20 month old daughter who is absolutely PREFECT! She was born on October 16, 2008 and began life with complications that have become greater than we could have ever imagined. Payten was born full term, no complications during the pregnancy and none during delivery. Payten came out having water in her lungs and trouble breathing. The hospital rushed Payten up to their Observation Nursery in the NICU, where they observed her a short time and then felt it necessary to admit Payten to the NICU for feeding and breathing complications. Payten was only there for a short time, because she quickly seemed to catch on to feeding properly and her breathing became less labored after a couple days. So Payten was discharged to go home with mom. We were so ecstatic words cannot express the joy we felt, we believed our troubles and worries were over, but as Payten’s Mother I could not dismiss that feeling deep down that told me something was wrong with my child, I just didn’t know what it was or how bad. At a week of age Payten was readmitted to the NICU for FAILURE TO THRIVE & HYPOTONIA (low muscle tone/floppy baby), Thanks to one of our dear Doctors, Dr. Robert Mancuso. Dr. Mancuso listened to a Mother’s concern for her child and addressed that concern; he saved a young life that day, Thank you Dr. Mancuso! There in the NICU they did what they called the MILLION DOLLAR work up. They did Chromosome tests, they did CAT Scans, blood work, and they ran Three Major Genetic Disease Tests, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and Parder Willis. At that time it was devastating. We did not know what to think, did Payten have one of these? It was months before we received those answers. So you can only imagine the emotion that was felt, the tears that were shed and the nightmares that were had. I remember sitting and just sobbing with the Social Worker after doing some research about the Diseases. Luckily, we were blessed to find out that Payten did not suffer from one of these Three Major Diseases that many families face. We were in the NICU for Three Weeks and while there we found that Payten had a PDA Valve in her heart that never closed, she was still labeled failure to thrive due to her struggle gaining weight, she was still hypotonic and after a swallow study it was found that Payten Aspirated while swallowing, so there we learned how to place a NG feeding tube. That is a tube that goes through the nose and down into the stomach. We were sent home with a Feeding Pump, a lot of medication and worry! We were not home for long. After Two weeks we returned to the hospital for Respiratory Distress and were admitted to the PICU. This is where our journey began with Payten. There we found that Payten had Pneumonia and she was in Congestive Heart Failure. Her heart was working so hard, due to the PDA Valve that never closed; her heart was Three Times the size it should have been. In order to fix this, Payten would have to go through Heart Surgery or her heart would tire and give out. We waited for a week; it was the longest week of our lives. Watching our daughter struggle like she did and not knowing if she was going to make it to her surgery date was challenging and one of the hardest things we have ever faced. But she made it! She is our Amazing Miracle! We were told by EVERYONE in the hospital that this would be the fix to EVERYTHING! That Payten would be a New Baby, all her troubles and complications would disappear once the surgery was done. They were all wrong! Yes the surgery fixed Payten’s heart, but it did not change Payten's other complications; she still had hypotonia and respiratory distress. After the surgery they tested Payten for Cystic Fibrosis and again we were blessed to find out that she did not have that. Finally they decided that a Bronchoscopy of Payten’s airway was the answer and so a week later Payten went into the OR for a look at her airway. There they found that Payten suffered from Severe Tracheomalacia and would benefit from having a Tracheotomy placed. It was a hard decision to make, but one of the best! So a week after heart surgery Payten had two more surgeries, A Tracheotomy and a Muscle Biopsy. The Muscle Biopsy was preformed to see if there was a muscle disease of some kind that other tests were not showing that would be causing Payten’s Hypotonia and it came back normal, we were left still with unanswered questions. We were in the Hospital for Six and a half weeks, from Payten getting Three Surgeries, to Joseph and I learning all there was to learn about Tracheotomy’s and how to care for a child with one! It was an extremely challenging time, yet so rewarding! After two days of being home with Payten, she started to Aspirate Formula through her Trach and so we returned to the PICU due to an Aspiration Pneumonia. It was this visit that we decided, along with all the Doctors involved that a G-Tube Placement and a Fundo Placation would be best for Payten. So three days later Payten went into the OR for two more surgeries. Since this Two week stay, we have been in and out of the hospital for various reasons, Pneumonias, other illnesses, various testing such as EEG’s, MRI’s, CAT Scans, Various Procedures such as, Bronchoscopy’s, Endoscopy’s, Sleep Apnea, Ventilator Trials/vent issues, and Seizures, etc. We have not been able to stay out of the hospital longer than Three Months. Payten has spent over 190 days in the hospital and most of those have been in the ICU. During this time we have searched for answers as to why Payten is the way she is and still have many unanswered questions. Payten’s first MRI showed that she has Severe Brain Malformations, which she did not have at birth. She has Frontal Temporal Exterior Lobe Atrophy of the Brain along with some bleeding on the Brain. We were told at the time of the results that they were pretty sure Payten suffered from a Rare Disease/Disorder called Glutaric Academia Type 1, which is a life threatening disease. We grieved for a short time, until we again were so blessed to find out that Payten did not have this disease/disorder. But we were left for many months without answers as to why her brain is the way it is. All we knew is that our daughter was not getting better and that her brain was progressively getting worse. We know now after months of waiting that Payten suffers from a Rare Deficiency called Cerebral Foliate Deficiency. It is treatable with a Foliate Supplement. Now can it reverse the Damage that this deficiency has caused? No one knows. Do we know if Payten will get better? No. Could she not and become worse? Possibly. It is a wait and sees diagnoses. Research on this is kind of discouraging, we just have faith that whatever happens is meant to happen. We just recently found that Payten is now having Centralized Apnea while sleeping (her brain is not telling her to breathe) and so therefore is now Ventilator Dependent whenever she sleeps. And about a month ago Payten had a couple Acute Life Threatening Situations that landed her in the hospital where they did a 24 hr. EEG and determined that Payten was suffering from Seizures. The Doctors are still searching for more Answers. Cerebral Foliate Deficiency is not a Sole Diagnosis it is caused by something, but we have yet to find what that something is. Payten may not be able to Sit, Crawl, Walk, Talk, Interact with others like other children do, etc., but Payten is a MIRACLE! She is Amazingly Strong. She is Love and Happiness. She is PREFECTION. And we are so very blessed to call her our Daughter. Where there is no STRUGGLE, there is no STRENGTH. That is the story of Payten’s life; she may have many Struggles, but what a Strong young lady she is! Parents Pray for a Healthy Baby with no complications and when it happens that you are faced with a Child like Payten, it may feel like your world is crumbling and you may go through grief, pain and sorrow and that is okay. But remember that nothing is impossible, because there is HOPE! And that is our Prayer and Payten’s Prayer. A Prayer of Hope, a Prayer of Acceptance and Love. It is the HOPE of not pretending that troubles do not exist, but rather the trust that they will not last forever, that hurts will be healed and difficulties overcome. It is the FAITH that a source of STRENGTH and RENEWAL lies within us all that will lead us through the darkness and into the sunshine. It is the Prayer of Acceptance and Love that one day all Children like Payten will be seen for who they REALLY are and not just for their Disability. These Children are Gifts from God and they need and deserve to be treated as such. This is Payten’s Prayer. Thank you all for your Love and Support.

Joseph and I are writing this email to inform you all of a Fundraiser that is being held for Payten, all the proceeds of this fundraiser will go to Payten's Chairity called, Payten's Prayers! It will help us with future expenses that we will face with Payten and we are hoping that someday it will become large enough to extend help to others. This Event will be A Charity Golf-A-Thon which is being organized by Integrity Golf Solutions, www.integritygolfsolutions.com. It will be held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona at 8 am. Anyone who wants to play is welcome! It is a 36 hole Golf Tournament with Lunch and Prizes. All players will need to sign up on the website and then find people to pledge for each hole. Now for you Non-Golfer's out there, you can still help! You can either sign up on the website and still collect pledge's or you can pass this information along and get friends of yours to participate. I do NOT print the color on my vinyl! Each color is cut out of a separate roll of solid colored vinyl. So anything that is multi-colored has to be layered, which makes some tricky and some impossible to do. If you have any questions, please contact me and I will let you know! For those of you who don't know, I just had baby #3 on January 22nd. Her name is Bella and we just love her! Between that and my computer crashing last week I got a little behind on orders. (About 30 orders behind to be more exact.) I did get caught up this weekend and got most of them shipped out before the pick up on Saturday. The rest will go out first thing tomorrow morning. I should be back on track for my typical time frame of responding to emails, designing and shipping out orders. YAY! To Seal or not to Seal

Many of my customers ask me if they need to seal their child's band after putting my decals on it. Here is my recommendation:

While many of my designs may not NEED a sealer over the top of them for them to stay on, some of them definitely do. When I create new designs I try to do so keeping in mind that they won't be sealed. However, many of my designs are actually custom designs from my customers that I have simply added to the list of designs to offer. I would also add that while I try to design so that the decals will last for a long time without sealing them, their size also plays a huge part in the success of them staying on. The smaller/thinner a decal is, the harder time it will have staying on the band.

The vinyl itself is meant for putting on cars, signs, walls and actually made for outdoor use. It is meant to last for YEARS! However, it was not designed to be put on these little bands that are slept on and played in for months by these sweet little babies. I use high quality vinyl, so please know that you are only getting the best from me. My daughter wore her band for 3 1/2 months starting when she was 9 months old. I put polka dots on her band and the polka dots stayed put, with no problem AT ALL the entire time she wore it. Her name, however, was a curly thin font and did not stay more than a week. Please keep this in mind when ordering your decals.

While you try not to let your child touch the decals or think they don't rub their heads during sleep...they do! So my new motto is SEAL SEAL SEAL! Like I said, some designs may not need it, but you won't know until it is too late. Mod podge is non-toxic and completely safe for your baby. If you choose to remove the decals at some point and apply new ones or leave it plain, simply use nail polish remover to get it off. You can go HERE for decorating tips from Cranial Technologies. It has lots of great information in it and I recommend it to all of my customers, even those who are using different brands of helmets.
